Frozen Dog Enrichment Snack,
Baby Birds and Strawberry Picking – Oh My
What a Week….
Hi Dear Friends,
Spring is in full swing here in North Carolina. We are having beautiful weather, sunny days with just a few spring showers mixed in and no escape from the pollen.
Kachew!!!! My allergies are also in full swing.
Although spring activities have been very limited this year, some things remain the same.
My family enjoys going to our local strawberry field and picking strawberries.
We usually go at least a couple of times each spring.
Almost nothing is better than fresh picked, straight off the vine, strawberries.
And this year’s batch did not disappoint.
The strawberry farm was opened for business with social distancing practices in place. It felt almost “normal” out in the field, walking up and down the rows, plucking and placing the strawberries in our buckets.
It was a fun day!
I have been experimenting with dog enrichment activities for a while now and have been having so much fun creating interesting food ideas and stimulating activities for my dogs, Poppy and Lucy.
This past week, I simply froze some dog treats in water and then let the dogs play, chew and gnaw on the ice as they worked their way to the treats. It kept them occupied for at least 15 minutes or so and was ridiculously easy.
I simply placed a handful of treats in a small plastic cup and filled with water and about a tablespoon of chicken broth. I placed in the freezer overnight and once frozen, popped the frozen mixture from the cup and they both dug right in.
It was super easy and they enjoyed it; so – win/win!
If you give it a try, let me know how it goes.
Although a lot of things have been very different over these past 6 weeks, one thing has remained constant.
Mother nature keeps right on showering the Earth with new life.
I was fortunate enough to have a mama bird choose a spot in my backyard to lay her eggs; and they are honestly the most beautiful shade of blue I think I have ever seen. Don’t you think?
I have been watching mama and daddy bird meticulously work on caring for those eggs and then the newly hatched
babies.
They work tirelessly to keep them all fed.
It has been such a gift to witness the beauty of new life during this difficult time.
It is a great reminder to me that there will always be new beginnings and fresh starts.
