Hello Spring ????????????☔
How are you? I hope all is going well in your little corner of the world.
I am so excited to see spring finally emerging. It does my soul so good. Just the newness of nature and everything around us brings so much hope and a sense of renewal.
So I had a friend tell me about some issues she was having with her dog. He was suffering with stomach upset and diarrhea. After visits to the vet and a lot of elimination with his diet, it was finally concluded that he had a sensitivity to the protein in the commercial dog food he was being fed.
She said that she no longer wanted to feed him a commercial diet and wanted to know her options. I did some research to see if I could help find some solutions. I have put it in a question format to make it easier to read and understand:
For nearly 6 months straight my dog became violently ill with terrible episodes of diarrhea anytime he ate his meals. We tried feeding him all types of dog food and eventually came to the understanding that he was allergic to every type of protein he was eating. Is there any thing that I can do to get my dog the necessary nutrients he needs without resorting to commercial dog food?
While it appears that all hope is lost for getting your dog back on track with a nutritional plan that will not make him sick, the good news is that you have tried every option except for the most important one: all natural raw foods.
Consider feeding your dog raw protein from now on. Totally raw, whole food diets, are the natural way our pets were meant to eat. It has only been the increased commercialism from pet food companies that has caused dog and cat owners to believe that their animals must eat food that comes in a can or large plastic bag. This could not be further from the truth!
Be sure to start a raw food diet in small portions. In addition to clean raw meats, consider raw fish, lamb, wheat, dairy, and yeast. These types of ingredients can be found in most whole food recipes. Calcium would be a supplement to consider as well, especially if the raw food you are feeding your dog does not have “crushed bone” or any other source of calcium in it. A vitamin/mineral supplement and fish oil are also recommended.
Protein is very important to your dog’s health. No wonder my friend’s pup was so sick! He was essentially allergic to an important part of his diet.
I have made a chart for you to visually see the reasons protein is so important for the health of your dog.

Many times, simply feeding your pet natural food options can eliminate or lessen the symptoms of many allergies and sensitivities.
Make sure you check with your vet before changing your pet’s diet or adding any supplements.
Do you have any fun Easter plans? Are there certain Easter traditions you enjoy? Send me a message and let me know. I would love to hear from you!
When our children were smaller, we always dyed Easter eggs and did the traditional Easter egg hunts with the cousins and some neighborhood friends. Now that they are older, they enjoy finding hidden plastic eggs with lots of treats like dollar bills and Starbuck’s gift cards (you need the large plastic eggs for a gift card surprise). ????????????
I am also picking up a Honey Baked ham for lunch and preparing roasted chicken. It will be a FUN day!
If you are still decorating for Easter or just looking for some cute spring decorations, check out these cute prints.
Just print out and add to frames or print on card-stock paper and use for stationary or Easter/spring cards. They are so cute and I love the vintage style!
