I just arrived home from a relaxing beach vacation at the beautiful Outer Banks in North Carolina. My family and I went with my extended family. Twelve people in one house! Although it was a lot of “togetherness”, we were able to unplug and just re-connect which is always nice and needed.
Check out the glorious sunrise photo I attached above. This was taken from the back deck of our rental house overlooking the Atlantic. This part of the ocean is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic because of all of the ship wrecks that have occurred over the years. If you look really closely at the top of the photo, you can see just a sliver of a half moon. That is my most favorite part of this picture! I am such a “look at the moon” kind of person.
We took a ferry and ventured over to Ocracoke Island. If you are not familiar, it is a picturesque, quaint fishing island and most famously known for being the island where the infamous pirate, Blackbeard, was beheaded. Yikes! While there, I met a lovely lady who started a non-profit for all of the feral cats on the island. I will share more about this later but if you want to look her up, she is on Facebook and the page is called Ocracats. Here is the link. ⇒ https://www.facebook.com/Ocracats
As you know, July 4th is quickly approaching. It’s a fun holiday of celebrating the Independence of America; but due to fireworks, it’s not always a fun time for our sweet fur babies.
Many pets become so anxious and agitated that they even run from home and become lost. How sad! 🙁 Notice that this month is also National Lost Pet Prevention Month. No coincidence that this would be the same month as a day with lots of fireworks.
My town is not hosting the annual fireworks show this year due to Covid restrictions but I highly suspect there will be neighbors doing there own fireworks shows.
That means my dogs for sure will be a nervous wreck…
Do fireworks scare your pup?
If interested, I have attached a link to HBNaturals – Calm For Pets. I use this high quality essential oil blend to help with anxiety for my own dogs. If you think July may be a stressful month for your pup, it’s definitely worth a try.
It also works great for those summer thunderstorms that always freak my pups out.
July is a busy month for animal celebrations. Who knew? If you are an animal lover like me, some of these dates may be of interest to you. There are lots of fun things on the calendar for July. Pick a few, or all of them, and figure out a way you and your family can observe and celebrate.
Here are a few highlights:
In addition to National Lost Pet Prevention Month, it is also National Picnic Month and National Park and Recreation Month.
July 1st is ID your Pet Day.
July 4th is America Independence Day.
July 5th is Pet Remembrance Day.
July 11th is Pet Photo Day.
July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day.
July 21st is National Craft for your local shelter’s Day.
July 28th is Parent’s Day.
July 30th is Day of Friendship.
July 31st is National Mutt Day.
If you end up observing any fun pet days this month, let me know. I would love to hear about it.
I’m trying to brainstorm some ideas for July 21st – National Craft for your local shelter’s Day. I’m thinking I will make some homemade dog treats to drop off for the pups.
